MEGAMAN VALOR NETWORK | SIGNUPS

nah, for real this time!

The year is 200X. Dr. Tadashi Hikari's invention, the Personal Terminal (or PET, for short), revolutionizes the world, bringing humanity into a golden age of computer science and electronics. The Internet proliferates, and soon every aspect of life is computer controlled.

Jump forward to 20XX. In Netopia, on the western coast, lies the shining Silicon Bay, and the coastal metropolis of San Isidora. Home to a population of just over a million, it is considered one of the hearts of Netopian commerce, culture, and research. PETs have become a mundane fact of life, and owning one is just as normal as owning a phone. Every PET is equipped with a Network Navigator, or NetNavi; a personal, semi-sentient AI assistant that's designed to help with multitasking, networking, and electronic interaction.

Life is as calm and peaceful as it can be in such a big city... but a storm brews over the horizon. One that threatens to change the face of the digital landscape as it's known.

OVERVIEW: HOO BOY.

MEGAMAN VALOR NETWORK is a planned upcoming Valor campaign, set in the world of Megaman Battle Network! Think if Dr. Light had been a computer scientist instead of a robotics major.

Players will be playing both Operator and NetNavi in a round robin fashion. EX: If I had players Alice, Bob, and Charlie, then the characters would be Alice with Bob.EXE, Bob with Charlie.EXE, and Charlie with Alice.EXE. Scenarios and incidents will span both the real world and the digital world, in and around San Isidora.

In this case, I'm running with the idea that PETs have advanced to look more like modern touch screen smartphones rather than the toyetic flip PDA models, and that NetNavis can either be the classic style, or objectheaded, or looking more like a VTuber avatar, or whatever. It's the internet, go nuts.

THE SYSTEM: If you've been following me at all on Plurk, you've probably heard of Valor. I will be able to provide a PDF of the book to anybody who does not currently have it. In very very short, it's a d10, grid-based RPG system with rewards for being cool, flashy, heroic, funny, or otherwise impressive to the DM. All of a character's abilities and damaging techniques are customized by the player, by appending Modifiers and Limits to a single Core. It's very fun. I've played it a lot. Other people can probably tell you a bit more about it. Anybody from complete novices to Valor veterans are welcome here. I'm working on a few house rules to better emulate the Megaman Battle Network feeling, but those'll be finalized at a later date.

PLANNING: Megaman Valor Network probably isn't going to run for a bit; I know there are a lot of campaigns already in the queue, and I don't want to overwhelm potential players. Suffice to say, it'll probably be a few months.

Sessions will be about 2.5-3 hours each, once a week run over Roll20 text, using the Roll20 Valor API (developed by the fantastic and amazing Quinn).

INTERESTED?: Post a commented with the following:
  • Name and Plurk
  • Weekly availability - what time works best for you?
  • Character Concepts - I'm looking for one Operator and one NetNavi concept, at least! Feel free to post multiples if you've got them, though. Be as detailed as you like!
  • Any questions for me?
  • Who's your favorite Robot Master? Provide photographic evidence.

>later evenings in CST, Friday 5:30-8:30 and Saturday 8-11 are taken up currently
>operator: Lia, a tired retail worker of some to-be-determined variety. Mostly just uses her PET/Navi much like one would very casually use Alexa/Siri/etc. Not super enthused to start with, but can very likely change depending on the scope of the impending threat.

navis:
cogman.EXE - A studious navi with a focus on helping keep busy schedules running smoothly. In combat, uses these skills to ruin enemies' plans via disruptive abilities.

cupidman.EXE - A flirty navi made to act as the clippy-esque assistant to a dating app, with all the cringeworthy cheese one would expect of it.

signalwoman.EXE - She's hiding in your wi-fi! A navi used for maintenance and repairs of networks and connections from the digital side.
>No questions
>Airman, as I roleplayed him for an inordinate amount of time on tegaki e back in the day and can still remember how to draw him without reference as a result.

- Matt, [personal profile] atrypical
- Basically any time in the evenings EST other than Monday or Thursday (Thursday is possible if it ends before 10 EST)
- Operator:
Helen - aspiring game design student and part time worker at a cat cafe. Gentle in retail mode, intense in other modes.
Alexi - nonbinary writer/artist, has a modest following for their work online (mostly fantasy adventure stories). Uses their Navi for compiling a lot of obscure research topics - think the weird shit you google for RP, that's what they use them for.
- Navi:
mediman.EXE - in charge of maintaining hospital equipment and acting as a general doctor's assistant
bingowoman.EXE - works as a 'host' for a gambling website
flyman.EXE - want to travel? Flyman will help you find the cheapest airfare and hotels.
- Nah.
- I'm an MMBN kid so I never really got into the originals. I still really like Toadman, but my absolute favorite is Bass because I'm predictable.

>MST; most available on: Sunday evenings (after 7), Wednesday mornings (before noonish), Thursdays before 6PM, Fridays all day, Saturday nights after [I forget. I'll fill this in later]
>Operator(s):
- Kyle Crenshaw is an up-and-coming reporter who works with his Navi to score exclusive interviews and keep his finger on the pulse of current events, all the better to keep himself and his agency's readers informed.
>Navis:
- CruiseMan.exe is a vehicle specialist that handles all sorts of navigation and autonomous operations on anything with an onboard computer. He tries to suit the mood of the assignment he's on, but is generally positive and relaxed.
- StringMan.exe is an elegant wordsmith on the run from the NetMafia ring that created him. Cautious but confident, StringMan really does want to put his old life behind him, and if they come knocking he's determined to put them down himself.
>Questions for you?: May I DM you an enemy idea and/or reccommend a fanfic?
>Favorite Robot Master?: Some people say no one likes Tornado Man; these people are wrong.
(ShPost answer, though? Pepsi Man.)

  • Name and Plurk: celene, [plurk.com profile] roseward
  • Weekly availability - what time works best for you? Currently more or less wide open, though I have existing obligations Thursday and Friday from 3:00 - 6:00 PST and Sunday from 6:00 PST onward
  • Character Concepts
    • Hope Carassia, f.k.a. Leviathan - A former minor figure in the Undernet hierarchy, Hope grew to know Mamoru during a stay in the same hospital for a condition that doctors misdiagnosed as HBD. They left Mamoru behind after the true diagnosis was revealed and they were determined to no longer need a serious amount of care, but remained in contact with him as he rose in power throughout the Undernet and used their inquisitive nature and fair-to-middlin' tech skills to help establish guidelines about security and secrecy. They developed these under the code name Leviathan and still operate under that name whenever they're online, but they've more or less lost interest in the Undernet so they can vibe and survive as a professional gig worker who's just trying to get by, man.
    • Delphyne Symfora - A total party girl who's here for a good time, not a long time. Impulsive, loud, and outgoing, Delph has not had a single thought in her head for her entire life and she's not about to start now. The hip, trendy fashion and electronics stores know her by name, and she always makes sure to introduce anyone she happened to bring along with her. She's down for anything that seems like it could be cool, fun, or even a little dangerous, and as long as you don't harsh her buzz, she might just drag you into it, too.
    • SabWoman.EXE - A NetNavi who's been discarded by nearly every previous Operator she's had. Bitter and disillusioned. Realizes she has a job to do, but has problems seeing the point to all of it when her Operator is just going to get tired of her attitude and get rid of her anyway. She's fragile in battles, preferring quick, close-range strikes that inhibit her enemies so others can come in for the kill.
    • ░░░░░░░░.EXE - A NetNavi with a corrupted memory sector. She's told that her design is familiar, but she has no memory of any previous Operators beyond her existing one. There's a nagging thought in the back of her mind that she's left some sort of .db with previous information about who she used to be, but she doesn't know if that's true at all. Day-to-day operations can be difficult for her, but she's usually okay enough at asking for help that it doesn't affect her relationship with her Operator too badly. Can't remember how she prefers to fight; relies on instinct when she must, but generally stays out of it.

  • Who's your favorite Robot Master? Provide photographic evidence. LMN-001 Quake Woman because she's cute as hell. If we're sticking with MMBN it's Serenade because gender is fake.

Weekly Availability: Weekdays may vary with classes, but in fall, will be available Tuesday or Friday from 4:30 Pacific, or Monday or Wednesday from 5:30 Pacific
Character Concepts:
- A local soccer player at the local college. Due to a series of circumstances ultimately consisting of "just not that good", she's not on the traveling team, which she gets miffed about often.
- PalmMan.exe, a palm tree themed Navi. Ironically, has never been to any region where palm trees can grow in real conditions. Uses bowling coconuts and palm-oil slicks as a ranged weapon.

Questions: None as yet.

Favorite Robot Master: Besides a few OCs at a very old Megaman RP, some of which could be adapted as Navis pretty easily after removing some specific influences, I wound up playing Iceman (classic) a few times and still like how he played in Powered Up.

>AVAILABILITY// Mondays between 6 and 10 ET (or 3-10 if it's following Wallflower), Tuesday 4-9 ET (might open up to all night later), Friday after 10 ET, Saturday if it ends before 7 ET
>CONCEPTS//
>Olive, a teen who's new to town, trying to navigate (heh) being in a new environment and also her own personal identity (touching on LGBT issues etc.) Her personal arc is more mundane to contrast with the story.
>If we need to skew older, then in contrast we can have Lime, a television actress known for her roll as cyber-sleuth Emerald Mayl. I'm sure there are a million ways to tie a fictional cyber-sleuth into a real cyber-investigation, as well as give some tie-ins to the entertainment industry.
>Page.EXE, a reading/research/writing-based Navi. A lot more extreme and enthusiastic than her description sounds, she's just very excited to do research. Goes on extreme wikidives in her spare time, which is a much different thing in the world of Navis. Paper and ink-based moveset.
>Ace.EXE, a general assistance Navi. But the truth is, she's a former NetBattle Navi (or equivalent) involved in Plot Things, before something happened to her previous operator. Secretly searching for her previous operator and trying to Right Wrongs, etc.
>QUESTIONS// I went with Western style names over Japanese I hope that works it looks like everybody else did,,,
